COLLEGE OF NURSING
INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

The College of Management of IMTU will be operative
with in the University campus from Feb 2006. The required land has
already been acquired adjoining the campus. The College will offer
courses in graduate and post graduate levels in Computer Management,
Business Management and Administration, Marketing, Materials and
Financials. The details will be available in the web site by Dec
2005.
The Colllege of Nursing of IMTU will commence
from Feb 2004 in the University campus. The College offers a four
year degree of B.Sc. Nursing, an up gradation course of two years
and also short courses. The details of up gradation and short courses
are not in this site. They may be obtained from the College.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the College of nursing is derived from that
of International Medical Technology University (IMTU), that is to
advance, expand, transmit, enhance and perceive knowledge for the
benefit of the people of Tanzania, Africa and the world in general.
This is achieved through:
· Teaching,
· Research,
· Public service and,
· Consultancy
The College of Nursing endeavors to further the
mission of the University through ensuring that this mission is
congruent to the mission of nursing in society, which is to help
individuals, families and groups to determine and achieve their
physical, mental and social potential, and to do so within the challenging
context of the environment in which they live and work. This requires
nurses to develop and perform functions that relate to the promotion
and maintenance of health as well as to the prevention of ill health.
Nursing also includes the planning and implementation of care during
illness and rehabilitation, and encompasses the physical, mental
and social aspects of life as they affect health, illness, disability
and dying. To do this, the School, therefore, endeavors:
- To excel in knowledge and human resource capacity
building in the nursing profession without sacrificing the quality
of care.
- To be an additional supplier from the private
sector of higher nursing professional cadre.
- To build distinctive characteristics and trademark
of nursing under the label of "Scientific professionalism"
to be acquired through the prime principle of integration of research,
teaching, services and consultancy at the immediate subject area.
- To ensure that research priorities are responsive
to the needs of the community.
VISION.
Striving for Excellence in Training, Research, Consultancy
and Public health related services that respond to National, Regional
and Global challenges.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the BScN programme the graduate should be able
to:
- Practice high quality nursing care to clients
at the highest level based on current knowledge from basic and
applied sciences.
- Analyse and relate the nursing practice on
philosophy, policy, and standards of nursing profession.
- Practice leadership skills at the highest
level within the political, social and health care systems within
nursing profession.
- Teach and educate clients, members of staff
and trainees from various schools of nursing.
- Collaborate with other health care workers
in the delivery of comprehensive nursing, health and related medical
care.
- Produce publications with up-to-date knowledge
and relevant modern nursing technology.
- Utilize the nursing process in provision of
cost-effective high quality nursing care to clients with different
nursing and health related services.
- Keep abreast with up-to-date knowledge and
skills through continuous self-development.
- Conduct, disseminate and utilize research
findings in the improvement of nursing and related services.
